Hello Sneak Leapers!
I got a lot of new subscribers after my last post about designing a game with public or free art. You can expect more of that in Sneak Leaps, along with play test opportunities and some actual plays I’m planning.
Today we are here to talk about Star Strider—a scenario to be played with Starforged. I came up with Star Striders after playing Sundered Isles and watching Skeleton Crew. Pirate stories are awesome, but what about pirates in space? That’s a no-brainer.
And Star Strider was born. A simple on its face adventure of getting onto a derelict ship and getting some treasure. But we know nothing is that simple. Of course, another pirate has beaten you to it and there are some nasty creatures on the Star Strider.
Kinda like Treasure Island meets Alien.
The long-term ambition is to use this format and style to create several adventures for Starforged, Sundered Isles and eventually Ironsworn 2E (when it’s released).
Star Strider is also my first foray into Affinity Publisher so I’m playing with a few things and have already learnt so much.
The Game
Star Strider is what I consider an Adventure Frame. It presents a scenario, a setting, NPCs, and enemies for you to play with. I’ve also included a few fun additions to the Starforged rules like triggering Endure Stress when a Miss with a Match is rolled. But I’ve learnt my lesson from past written adventures, that I should keep additional rules and mechanics to a minimum and have them optional anyway.
I don’t want a player to read Star Strider and think “God I need to learn all these new rules on top of Starforged! Forget this!”
It isn’t an RPG module in the traditional sense, as you won’t find a map here, boxed text, or things like that. Instead, you’ll find enough to build your own adventure with.
Note, there will be typos and some other things I’m going through and squashing. But if you see something seriously bad, let me know. Thanks!
Without further ado, here is Star Strider:
What do you think?
I’d love to know what you think.
Did you have fun reading through it?
Is it the type of adventure you want more of?
I’d love suggestions and pointers as I work to turn Star Strider into a finished product!
Until next time Toad Warriors!
Croaker.
Star strider was a great read! I kept thinking how can I fit this scenario into my solo play of Hostile RPG. (I don’t play Starforge) I LOVE the original crew being melted together. What an awesome horror! I thought all of it was pretty good. I think the only thing I’d like to see is some art of the monsters to give me a visual. I need to read this again! I really loved it. 😊
